Anegada, BVI

TripTimmy Visits: 5

*Denotes TripTimmy Favorite

Best time to go: December to May
Cheapest time to go: September to November

Why Go:

Want some chill time on a flat (28 feet above sea level) 15 square mile island with about 250 inhabitants? This it it.  Fifteen miles from Virgin Gorda, it feels like you're on the edge of the world.

Accommodations:

*Anegada Beach Club (ABC): go for the incredible "beachfront" retreats, a lifetime experience with privacy. Super hospitable staff, bar & restaurant.

*Catamaran: very popular overnight spot for yachting in the BVI.

Restaurants/Bars:

*Anegada Beach Club: excellent food options (grilled lobster) & great bar

*Cow Wreck Beach Bar: isolated on a pristine beach, say "hi" to Ann

*Big Bamboo Bar: Loblolly Beach, a few yards off the ocean

*The Wonky Dog: grilled lobster plus other nice options

*Potters Bar & Lobster: hang out here before you hop on the ferry to Tortola

Things to Do:

*Chill on the beach

*Rent a car and explore

*Look for pink flamingos @ Flamingo Pond

Craft Beer Scene:

Zero...best options for beer are from the Caribbean: Carib, Presidente, Red Stripe. May want to switch up to rum (try a Painkiller)

TripTimmy Travel Tips:

It can be a bit of a challenge to get there.  The easiest way is to fly into Tortola (EIS) and take a ferry (about 45-60 minutes).  ABC has their own ferry which leaves from Trellis Bay which is next to the airport.  Otherwise, there is a ferry which leaves from Roadtown.  Another option is to fly into Anegada from either Tortola or St Thomas.  If you are yachting, get there early for a mooring ball @ Setting Point and go slow when you get close because it's a bit tricky navigating into the harbor.
